Grande and Davidson announced their breakup October 14 after a four-month engagement. In his opening monologue, which featured a cameo by Candice Bergen and Drew Barrymore, Bergen referred to a drink she was having as a "Pete Davidson". "I know they say I move on too fast / But this one gon' last", she sings.

The comic sat down with Colin Jost and Michael Che on "Weekend Update" over the weekend, where he ostensibly came out to give his opinion on congressional candidates running for reelection, but made sure to address the elephant in the room.

Over a series of tweets on Saturday, Grande revealed her fifth album will be titled, Thank U, Next. "Now, go vote on Tuesday". Responding to a fan who inquired whether Thank U, Next would be the name of an album or track, she tweeted "Issa song and an album. you'll get the song first". The song opens with the shoutouts: "Thought I'd end up with Sean / But he wasn't a match / Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh / Even nearly got married / And for Pete, I'm so thankful / Wish I could say "thank you" to Malcolm / 'Cause he was an angel" - referring to her ex-boyfriends Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Davidson, and Miller, respectively. The reigning pop queen released a single of the same name shortly before 11:00pm on the East Coast, just over a half hour before the start of the totally unrelated Saturday Night Live. Grande and Davidson had a whirlwind romance that included matching tattoos and an engagement.
