They have gone four games without a win in all competitions, the first such run of his managerial career, and lost 3-1 away to West Ham United in their last top-flight outing.

Jose Mourinho will be sacked as Manchester United manager this weekend, regardless of their result against Newcastle on Saturday, according to reports.

According to ESPN, Manchester United owners, the Glazer family are willing to give the manager some time to turn things around.

United's attack did the defence no favours in the 50th minute, with Pogba denied by Newcastle Martin Dubravka from 25 yards despite a deflection and Matic missing the second chance, on an open net, by sending his attempt over the crossbar.

Man United were without four players through injury for the midweek draw with Valencia: Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Ashley Young.

Those rumours, however, were later quashed by the club themselves, but the feeling still remains that Mourinho is living on borrowed time in the Old Trafford dugout.

Blanc also has a history at Old Trafford having played for Manchester United for two seasons in the early 00s, so despite that being a relatively short period of time one could argue that he already has an understanding of the culture at the club. "All of them have been really strong every year with good managers, good players, so I don't see any fragile Manchester United team".

With that in mind, Benitez will be pleased that he could have Federico Fernandez and Paul Dummett back for the trip for the later kick off.

Weeks of speculation and scrutiny came to a head on Friday evening, when the Daily Mirror reported that the 55-year-old was set to be sacked, irrespective of the outcome of Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle.

Asked at his pre-match press conference on Friday if he felt he had taken United as far as he could last season, Mourinho said: "No".

Mourinho has had a tumultuous season, as feuds with players like Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial bled over into the media. Man United may have just reached their nadir.

When it was put to the Portuguese that this kind of run for a club of this size is not acceptable, he said: "Yes, I accept (it is not good enough)".
