It has also been announced that Disney is now developing multiple limited series featuring characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe for their upcoming streaming service.

The Mandalorian will be the first ever Star Wars live-action series and Lucasfilm has released the first image from the series Thursday along with an inclusive list of directors.

"According to franchise press release bullhorn - ahem, StarWars.com, "'The Mandalorian' is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order".

The synopsis for the show runs thus: "After the stories of Jango and Boba Felt, another warrior emerged in the Star Wars universe".

Now, the momentum continues with our very first look at the show. While The Mandalorian is the hero of the show, it's clear that he's not necessarily one of the good guys.

Touting a hefty price tag of $10 million per episode and more expectations than we can count, the project is now beginning to gain a serious sense of momentum as production gets ready to kick off. They include Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi and big time Hollywood actress and sometime filmmaker Bryce Dallas Howard.

"I couldn't be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform", Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy shared in a statement announcing the series. It had previously been rumoured that Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni would be making the jump from animated to live-action and directing a pair of episodes. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. "Jon brings the flawless mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe".
