Prison reform, Chicago violence on menu for Kanye-Trump White House lunch

Earlier this week, Mr. Trump said there are a lot of people like Johnson and he would like to find them.

He continued, "Let's stop worrying about the future all we have is today...Trump is on his hero's journey right now".

Kanye - who last month announced he had changed his stage name to "Ye" - was visiting the White House to have lunch with the President and discuss issues he feels are most important to African Americans.

Rapper Kanye West showed a picture of a plane on a phone to President Trump. "Those in the music business say he's a genius, and that's okay with me".

During one pause in West's comments, Mr Trump said: "I tell you what that was pretty impressive".

"It was from the soul", West said. Brown, a civil rights leader, has met Trump previously. "It cost me billions, I said to one of my friends, a very wealthy friend, I bet it cost me $2 or $3 billion, it is worth every penny of it", Trump told "Fox & Friends" in an interview on Thursday.

In a conversation that lasted almost an hour, Trump ricocheted from one topic to the next, commenting on everything from Hurricane Michael to the infamous anonymous New York Times op-ed to Bob Woodward's new book.

West added that black people complained about the "Again" word in Trump's campaign slogan, but stated that, "time is a myth".

Mr Trump joked: "We could get rid of Air Force One". "He gets it." He also joked that he could be a good presidential candidate to which Kanye responded, "Only after 2024".

Trump described West as a "smart cookie" who "gets it", and when asked if the 21-time Grammy Award victor could be a future presidential candidate, he replied, "Could very well be". He's a smart cookie.

West's visit comes after his wife, reality TV star Kim Kardashian, successfully lobbied the president to commute the sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, who had been convicted on drug charges.

"I love this guy!" he said.

Following the Oval Office meeting, the pair were scheduled to speak with Mr Trump as well as his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
