Pixel 3 XL bug causes a second notch to appear

Despite not officially launching until November 1, Google's Pixel 3 XL has already found its way into the hands of select customers.

It's theorized that the issue is related to a feature that allows the Pixel 3 XL's notch to be hidden by placing black bars alongside the cutout-these "second notches" are appearing at the side of the phone because of the glitch. Unfortunately, both the Pixel 3 XL and Pixel 3 have been struck with a variety of software bugs right out of the gate. The phantom notch is reportedly easy to erase - simply restart your phone and the screen should revert to normal.

Have you experienced this bug? Clicking on the option will bring a black bar on top of the screen in place of the notch.

Thankfully, some Reddit users say just switching the phone between portrait and landscape modes will make the second notch disappear when the screen refreshes. The notch disappears after a restart or changing some of the developer settings, but it's certainly an annoying and amusing bug.

Google told Android Police that a fix for the issue will be coming soon, so it's not that much of a big deal.

Google is working on a software update for all Pixel phones after a rash of complaints about unsaved photos. Still annoying, but knowing that Google is aware, and that a fix is coming soon, is reassuring.
