He was taken into custody soon afterwards, Jeffersontown Police Chief Sam Rogers said at a news briefing outside the store. Gunfire allegedly ensued, but no one was struck, he said. Information about suspects or motives was not immediately available.

The shooter then walked outside and fired more shots at a woman, Rogers said.

The names of the suspect and victims have not been released.

Moments after he shot the woman in the parking lot, the suspect also encountered another man who had a gun.

'It nearly sounded like a pallet hitting the floor, ' he told WDRB-TV in Louisville.

Local reporter Valerie Chinn, of WDRB News, tweeted Wednesday that an EMT who was inside the Jeffersontown store outside Louisville told her he "saw two people shooting at each other".

'I looked at her and she was, she was gone, ' he said.

Officers apprehended the suspect.

He said he drove to the store after she called him sobbing to tell him what had happened.

"I said, 'What's wrong?'" King said in a video posted on the newspaper's website. The investigation is still ongoing, and Rogers said he had no direct knowledge of what statements the shooter has made.

Customers were moved to the back of the store, she said. Let me get out here and try to help this woman.' So that's when I went, ran over, I get down.

Police say two people died in the shooting.

A dispatcher with the Jeffersontown Police Department said a suspect was detained following the shooting.

The store is located on the eastern outskirts of Louisville.
