A flawless start of seven straight wins in all competitions has come undone in the past week with defeats to Chelsea and Napoli in the Champions League, either side of a draw with Chelsea on league duty last weekend.

Manchester City pair Kevin De Bruyne and Benjamin Mendy both returned to training this week and could feature.

Man City have lost three matches against Liverpool in 2018, losing in the Premier League in January and two Champions League matches in April.

"But as a player there is not much more that you can achieve than playing these type of games, because when you play them or when the atmosphere is like that, you know it's a big thing".

When asked about his side's clashes with Liverpool last season, City boss Pep Guardiola added: "Every game is completely different".

Manchester City had only won the English top flight twice before it was rebranded as the Premier League whereas Liverpool had secured 18 titles.

However, Klopp says their financial power and the leadership of Pep Guardiola makes the task of overhauling City a very hard one.

This comes after Liverpool failed to register a shot on target against Napoli for the first time in about 6 years and team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum stating that this was a reality-check so it will be interesting to see which Liverpool turns up at Anfield this weekend.

Liverpool is one of the two greatest teams in England and that's why we tried to be close with them in terms of many, many things and we are closer.

But former defender Carragher claims Liverpool must avoid defeat if they want to have any chance of winning their first Premier League title.

"It's obviously going to be a tough game, but we've shown in recent games that we have the ability to beat them, to go toe-to-toe with them, and that's what we'll be looking to do again on Sunday - to go at them and try to win the game".

City have taken extra security measures, fitting cameras to the coach, while some travelling fans are considering lining the route to the stadium to protect the coach.

"They are so good at making a real attack and the three guys in front connect very well". There was a bump in the road on Wednesday, but we've got to keep trying to push forward and gather as many points as we can.

As a result of that, van Dijk's defense has kept a clean sheet in their last eight Premier League games to be played at Anfield.

"But that depends on the Liverpool people, not on Manchester City".
