Jurgen Klopp provides update on injured Liverpool player after Man City draw

In the aftermath of the Liverpool game, some City fans on social media have been disgruntled that Riyad Mahrez ballooned a penalty with just minutes to go after appearing to pull rank over Gabriel Jesus following Sergio Aguero's departure from the pitch.

Liverpool remain level on points with Chelsea and City at the top of the Premier League table ahead of the worldwide break, after a gruelling run of matches.

"We feel we can compete with any team but people seem to be just dismissing other teams and making it a two-horse race, which is not the case", the Scotland worldwide told Sky Sports.

Arsenal are on an impressive six-game winning run in the league, and they looked very good against a very open Fulham team on Sunday.

That made it a totally different game to their meetings last season.

Pep Guardiola said his gameplan was to control possession and avoid losing the ball in areas where Liverpool could counterattack through Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané.

On the game against City itself, Robertson admitted: "We can play a lot better but on days when you are not at your best it is important not to drop points".

'We aim to improve every game and we want to win every game.

"We stood strong and showed great mental strength", said Stones after the game. Watching them is really good. And we hope that they come back healthy and play these easy competitions, the Premier League, the Champions League and all this. Seems like Liverpool are going with a 4-3-3, whilst Naby Keita makes the bench after recovering from the back spasm he suffered against Napoli midweek.

Perhaps that is something of a disappointment for Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool fans; they swept City aside three times last season, and this term, they need a statement win to announce themselves as title challengers.

Stones said: "I think it was just decided between the boys (who took the penalty), Riyad was taking them well in training all week".

The result means City go top, ahead of both Chelsea and Liverpool on goal difference, with all three teams tied on 20 points.

"To keep a clean sheet after a penalty in the last five minutes makes me a very happy man".
