CDC reports first child flu death of the new flu season

The flu is a common viral infection, that in serious cases can be deadly. Flu season is especially devastating on college campuses for several reasons.

Getting it every year will keep you better protected, as well as help keep the populations most vulnerable to the flu - children and the elderly - safe through herd immunity. Every year in Scotland, children are hospitalised for the treatment of flu or its complications.

"Compared to last year, after the first week of our flu prevention campaign, we immunized 850 more people than last year".

"The nasal spray contains a live virus", says Urrutia. The body produces the specific antibodies needed to fight off the specific viruses that are in the vaccine - making the immune defense stronger.

However, all hope is not lost for college students.

The study is being funded by the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases - and Cvitanovich said its findings would have a global impact.

In addition, the survey they sent out to 18- to 24-year-old undergraduate students states that "70 percent believe it is important to get an annual flu shot". We need you to get your flu vaccine so that fewer people fall victim to the flu virus, fewer people become severely ill and fewer people die.

A local doctor has advised over 65s they may not get their flu vaccine as early this year, due to supply issues. People can ask their doctor what type of flu vaccine is right for them.

Most people have likely had the flu at some point - with symptoms such as a constant cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches and fatigue - yet many myths and misperceptions remain.

Getting vaccinated not only benefits you; it benefits everyone.

"Workers with a medical contraindication to influenza vaccination should provide evidence of same, and may decline vaccination, but may be moved to a low-risk or non-clinical area for the period of the flu season and may be required to wear a mask", it stated.

Good hygiene practices are critical to stopping the spread of the flu, Ramsey said.

They will also have flu vaccines available during the regular walk-in vaccine clinics on Mondays from 1 p.m.to 4 p.m. and Thursday from 8:30 a.m.to 12 p.m. The cost will be $27, and student charge will be accepted.

"With the regular flu shot- which most of us are familiar with- it's not a live virus sort of situation".
