According to Activision, it's enjoyed the best day one digital sales of any Call of Duty, and also broken the global records for the fastest-selling PlayStation digital release.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 scored a major victory for Activision on Friday. The game recorded the most first-day digital sales in Activision's history. Though Activision did confirm that PC day one digital sales more than doubled last year's numbers.

"Black Ops 4 is an incredible game, and the community's response to it has been unbelievable", he stated.

Black Ops 4 - did it beat WWII or not?

Rob Kostich, executive vice president and general manager of Call of Duty, said in a press release, "Black Ops 4 is an incredible game, and the community's response to it has been unbelievable". No, Black Ops 4 broke the digital day one sales record on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC individually, as well as the overall record. While I'll always lament the loss of the single player (it's usually my December-time popcorn entertainment), it's a move that's been received well by fans. If Black Ops 4 had set a day one record for online players for the franchise then the publisher would have said so. They specifically say that those modes include Blackout, which also seems to be where most of the community's concern has been focused. Digital sales of the Treyarch-developed shooter surpassed the previous digital day one sales record-holder, 2017's Call of Duty: WWII. We are so incredibly thankful for the community's trust and support. Taking a different tack, the magazine headlined its story to highlight the downturn in physical games sales.

Captured by CharlieIntel moments before it was deleted, an official blog post from the Call of Duty website provided a look at what is being called the "Supply Stream".

Black Ops 4 first weekend boxed sales in the United Kingdom were down 50 per cent compared to last year's Call of Duty: WWII, and down 59 per cent compared to Black Ops 3.
