Former Vice President Joe Biden received a device sent to him at a US postal service facility in DE this week.

Federal agents searched a U.S. mail facility near Miami on Thursday night racing to find who sent 10 pipe bombs to prominent Democrats and critics of U.S. President Donald Trump as leads pointed to Florida as the possible origin of the packages. A police bomb squad was sent to CNN's offices in New York City and the newsroom was evacuated because of a suspicious package.

The news came after a suspicious package at Robert de Niro's NY restaurant was called in to police this morning.

Two packages were sent to California congresswoman Maxine Waters, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

The arrest came on the same day law enforcement found three more devices - in Florida, New York and California - and capped off an increasingly tense five-day stretch in which at least one explosive device was found each day, putting officials and potential targets on high alert.

Trump's relentless criticism of the news media was seen as a factor in turning CNN into a target.

The package's removal comes a day after at least seven suspicious packages sent to Trump critics, including former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former CIA Director John Brennan, CNN's NY offices, former Vice President Joe Biden and Hungarian-American liberal philanthropist George Soros, were intercepted by authorities.

De Niro has repeatedly blasted the president in public ever since he became a candidate in the 2016 election.

Packages mailed to billionaire philanthropist George Soros, former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holder, congresswoman Maxine Waters and former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan.

The package sent to CNN, which Trump has frequently derided for its coverage of him, contained an envelope of white powder that experts were analyzing, New York City Police Commissioner James O'Neill said.

Officers said the items were similar to crude pipe bombs sent to former president Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and CNN. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former chair of the Democratic National Committee, as the sender. The package has since been removed from the production company office, but the official NYPD Twitter account noted there will be "a heavy police presence and residual traffic in the area as we continue our investigation with our law enforcement partners".

Billionaire George Soros, a Democratic megadonor who has been the target of Republican conspiracy theories, and CNN - which Trump has attacked repeatedly - also received bombs. The devices, each with a small battery, were made from PVC pipe about six inches long and covered with black tape, said a law enforcement official who viewed X-ray images.

Mr De Niro has been outspoken against Trump and has even called him a "national disaster". Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was listed as the return address. The White House said it condemned the "attempted violent attacks".

But House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer criticized Trump in a joint statement, saying the president's words "ring hollow until he reverses his statements that condone acts of violence".
