The chief of staff, John Kelly, and the national security adviser, John Bolton, fought over immigration and border crossings, including the performance of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, one person familiar with the matter said. It erupted as the president - disappointed by new government data showing that his restrictive immigration policies have failed to discourage migrants from seeking entry into the United States - is grasping to resolve a problem that has bedeviled his administration. Nielsen was employed under Kelly when he ran DHS.

Onlookers speculated that Kelly may resign following Thursday's incident, while Sarah Sanders, the White House Press Secretary stated that "we are not angry at one another", all the while not denying of the occurence of the heated back and forth.

There was shouting in the West Wing on Thursday, and it was even more intense than usual, sources tell CNN.

She then slammed Democrats, accusing them of failing to address the issue and pushing an open borders agenda.
