Apple preview: What to expect in next week's iPad, Mac unveil

The iPad Pro may launch in both sizes - 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch and is said to get a FaceID and a Type C USB port for charging and data transfer. Yes, it's true. The all-new 2018 iPad Pro will purportedly drop the circular home button from previous models in favour of swipe-gestures and Face ID. The iPhone X's and iPhone XS' Face ID authentication functionality will likely make its way to the 2018 iPad Pro, and as a result, the tablet is also rumoured to ditch Touch ID.

Apple's upcoming event for the iPad and Macs will take place around the same time that its annual earnings report is due.

The new displays will be LCD instead of OLED, but will support Face ID (and Animojis of course), which will be able to "work in both portrait and landscape orientations", explains Gurman. And while it's been rumoured for years now, according to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an excellent track record for predicting Apple's unannounced hardware, the new iPad Pros could sport improved displays, and might also be the first mobile devices from Apple to swap the Lightning connector for a USB-C port. The new Apple Pencil might also use the W1 wireless chip for easier pairing, and possibly even feature magnetic connectivity so that it can be attached and stored on the side of the new iPad Pros.


An Apple-focused French blog, Consomac, spotted a filing Apple made in the Eurasian Economic Union for various MacBooks and Macs, but four of the model numbers listed are for unknown products, including three Macs that have yet to be revealed.

Apple is holding a major keynote in NY on Tuesday and rumours suggest a new cheaper laptop could be top of the agenda.

Apple is fully expected to reveal two totally new tablets which could see some of the biggest changes in years. According to the report, Apple will add a Retina display to the new MacBook.

It's been over a year since Apple first teased its homegrown wireless charging pad that could handle multiple devices at once, including iPhones and the Apple Watch. However, only Apple stores that feature video walls will be hosting these events, which excludes a vast majority of them. Apple's keynote is scheduled for October 30th, at which point we'll learn everything we need to know about Apple's 2018 Mac lineup. Between the location of the event and the subtle hints that Apple is known for leaving in its invites, it's safe to say this event is going to be focused on creating.

There were rumors of Apple launching the AirPods 2 this year.

Apple's wireless earbuds, AirPods, have been included in rumors, with the anticipation of an updated feature set that includes Siri integration and a wireless charging case.
