After City draw, Liverpool's Klopp slams 'senseless' Nations League

We have played City often and they are outstanding.

Manchester City were awarded the penalty after a poorly timed tackle from Reds defender Virgil van Dijk on City winger Leroy Sane.

Pep Guardiola refused to criticise Mahrez, who joined City from Leicester in the summer, and praised his "courage" for stepping up, with Sergio Aguero already off the field.

As for what it means for the standings, there is now a three-way tie for first with teams having records of 6-2-0.

City's tactics were so successful that Liverpool failed to register a single shot on target for the first in the first half of a Premier League game for the first time since November 2017 against Chelsea.

Liverpool's front three had been deadly in those Anfield games last season but they created little on Sunday, with the home side's rhythm further disrupted by a first-half injury to James Milner.

City probably asked more questions than Liverpool and such was their quality on the ball, they always looked in control and had Riyad Mahrez not missed his 86th minute penalty kick you couldn't argue with the reigning champs edging this one. And in no game we played so far, the game was level like it was today. "Both teams did well".

"It was seven massive games and I'm really happy with what the boys made out of it, now we have to hope they come back [from the upcoming global break] healthy and then we go to Huddersfield".

"It was a tough game against the champions and I'm happy that we kept the clean sheet, especially after the penalty".

It'll be followed by the visit of Red Star Belgrade, themselves dismantled in Paris last week, in European action and then the arrival of Cardiff City at Anfield in league action to round off the month. They will have their moments, but I thought we defended them brilliant - apart from the penalty and one or two situations, where we needed Alisson with a really good save. I would not like to speak about the referees, about the decisions. We know this club how complicated it is playing in this stadium and how unsafe they are. That's why we controlled it so good.

"We had our chance in the last minutes to win the game but we missed it and next time we will try to do better".

"We had a chance at 0-0 for Danny Ings, if that goes in we get a different frame of mind", he said.
