Jurgen Klopp has named an interesting starting XI, for while the front-three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane all start, so does Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 26-year-old has set unbelievably high standards for himself after last season's brilliant first year at Anfield and many feel that he's nowhere near those heights at the beginning of this campaign.

Meanwhile, the Reds have maintained their ideal start to the season after a fine display against Saints.

The Reds are coming off of their UEFA Champions League opening victory over Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Cedric Soares makes a superb last-ditch tackle to deny Mohamed Salah, but from the resulting corner Joel Matip rises to thump in Liverpool's second.

Southampton will visit Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday as Premier League season continues.

Klopp has defended out-of-form Salah, saying the Egyptian's current form is only temporary and that he is still a threat to the opponents. "No-one remembers that, it is really no problem".

"That's why I think Liverpool have been better in Europe as opposed to the Premier League".

In the same period Southampton have scored none or one in 16 of their 21 away games, which suggests not much should be expected of them especially with Ings unavailable. There are always times an offensive player doesn't score but he's in good shape.

"Finishing is something you can never take for granted", he added.

The former Republic of Ireland global established a reputation as one of the Premier League's most prolific strikers during his time with Tottenham, but had limited success after moving to Liverpool for £19m in 2008.
