Carter was ran over when Suge Knight tried to speed out of the parking lot at Tam's Burgers in Compton where a portion of the movie was being shot.

Knight's plea, which was unveiled in a Los Angeles courtroom, came just days before he was to stand trial for the death of 55-year-old Terry Carter, who was run down outside an LA restaurant in 2015.

Knight was initially charged with murder and faced life in prison without parole - his sentence of 28 years stems from a plea deal struck with the District Attorney's office on Wednesday.

TMZ reports that the former Death Row exec pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter. The other man, Cle Sloan, suffered injuries to his head and foot. His trial was scheduled to begin October 1. He was accused of stealing a camera from a woman and of sending threatening text messages to Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray.

Death Row Records was founded by Knight in 1991, and rose to prominence with the release of definitive early records from Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur. He admits he's incredibly concerned about his dad's health, but says Suge's a fighter. and he's always going to be alright. In 1997, he was sentenced to jail for violating that probation after participating in an altercation in Las Vegas that culminated hours later in the fatal shooting of Tupac Shakur while he rode in Knight's vehicle. Knight, who was at the wheel, was slightly wounded himself.

"You served nine years for it", Coen said, before Knight agreed to move on. Knight was indicted for making criminal threats in August 2014.
