OnePlus 6T will feature an in-screen fingerprint reader

OnePlus 6 users with a taste for experimental software can now update their phones to the latest OxygenOS Open Beta 2.

The OnePlus 6T is coming to the USA via T-Mobile this October and will likely be the first phone widely available in the USA featuring a fingerprint reader inside the screen.

OnePlus 6T will have a design very similar to the new Oppo and Vivo smartphones like Oppo R17, Oppo F9 Pro and Vivo V11 Pro.

In an email to CNET, OnePlus said: "We unlock our phones multiple times a day, and Screen Unlock reduces the number of steps to complete the action".

Along with confirming the presence of an in-display fingerprint sensor, a screenshot of the OnePlus 6T lockscreen has revealed the smartphone's launch date. Today OnePlus have confirmed to CNET that it will indeed have the in-display fingerprint sensor.

Speaking to CNET, the company said that its implementation of the technology - now found on the likes of the Vivo Nex and Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS - will be unimaginatively branded "Screen Unlock". But whatever: To the user, they will be pressing their finger on the display to unlock the phone.

Despite being known as "in-screen fingerprint readers" the technology is actually embedded underneath displays.

According to CNET, the OnePlus 6T will be 0.45mm thicker than the OnePlus 6, which had a fingerprint reader on the rear.

OnePlus 6T, an upgrade of the bestselling OnePlus 6 is expected to launch this October.

An in-screen scanner could prove a major selling point for the OnePlus 6T, especially as the phone is likely to undercut most flagships, the majority of which don't offer the tech.
