We've had leaks of Brie Larson as the titular character, but EW is in full-on promotion mode and will be dropping the first official looks at the hero throughout the week. Sadly, the first trailer for the movie that we were expecting on Wednesday never arrived, but we still got a sneak peek of what's to come.

This year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe turns ten years old. But all that could change if she plays a role in Captain Marvel. "She can be aggressive, and she can have a temper, and she can be a little invasive and in your face".

The upcoming Marvel Studios venture was originally teased in a post-credits scene at the end of Avengers: Infinity War back in April, which showed Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) driving through a city as it descended into chaos as Thanos' universal purge claimed its victims.

Regarding my reaction to the Captain Marvel costume, I have to say that I like what I see. "That's a motif throughout the piece, the element of learning to control one's emotions and to use your powers wisely". High-res photos of Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, the Skrull leader.

Seems like a natural direction to take things, considering Carol will be getting her powers in a freak accident (assuming they stick relatively close to the comic book canon, but we'll see). However, this Nick Fury hasn't been through the wringer yet, as we see that both of his eyes are still in place (though he does have an injury over the eye he'll eventually lose). Interestingly enough, Marvel Comics has a character named Monica Rambeau, who is one of several iterations of Captain Marvel. While DC and Warner Bros. managed to earn rave reviews past year with Wonder Woman, Marvel and Disney have felt behind with the times for once on creating a female-led superhero movie in the genre that they revolutionised.

Captain Marvel is an origin story set in the past, much like the first Captain America film.

On March 8th, 2019, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's standalone Captain Marvel movie will take to the skies, and completely redefine the parameters of the MCU with its 90s setting and villainous ensemble.
