Maurizio Sarri: Chelsea a 'step behind' Liverpool, says Blues boss

Maurizio Sarri said Chelsea are a year behind their Premier League rivals in the hunt for the title after the goalless draw at West Ham.

Sarri's side are still part of the leading pack in the table, but he believes that it will take as long as a year of playing together before his side can match Jurgen Klopp's.

For all of Chelsea's first-half domination, clear-cut chances were hard to come by and they were almost punished by West Ham just before the half-hour mark, but Antonio blazed wide after exquisite play by Felipe Anderson.

"We have started to work together 40 days ago, less 10 days for the worldwide break, so for us it is a bit early". I think this is right.

'We have to work and then, maybe, in one year we will be at the same level as Liverpool'.

But if the German is not ready to face Liverpool on Saturday, Langley says Cahill must be the man to step in at Anfield; he has fewer concerns about the EFL Cup game between the two teams on Wednesday.

"It was very hard to play inside", Sarri said after the game.

Sarri had expressed his disapproval about having to return to Premier League action on Sunday in light of Chelsea's continental commitments; in Italy, teams participating in the Europa League have their following domestic fixtures moved to Monday evening.

"In my statistics we had seven opportunities against three", he said.

But the Italian has admitted he could make a full squad change for the upcoming game against Liverpool in the cup match.

Despite the missed chances and the dropped points, there are plenty of positives to be taken from West Ham's display and they will be looking to build on the four points they've picked up in their last two matches.

Chelsea's Marcos Alonso (L) vies for the ball with West Ham's Andriy Yarmolenko during their scoreless draw.

"They were cutting out very well every pass for [Olivier] Giroud, so we needed two wingers, I think".

Twice in the second half Hazard's nature overrode his new role in this team, as he tried to play in Morata with an overly ambitious back-heel and a first-time aerial flick rather than attempting to trouble Fabianski himself.
