IPhone XS: Apple to announce new phones at launch event

But new iPhones aren't the only product observers will be looking to see.

Apple is set to reveal its latest smartphones, rumoured to be the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR, at an event in Cupertino, California later today.

The new iPhones will therefore be called the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR. While Xs will be an advanced version of the iPhone X, iPhone XC will be its low-priced version.

It is expected that consumers could start buying new Apple products much closer to the unveiling date this year, probably by the first week of October.

Rival Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has a few models that cost almost as much as Apple models, but the bulk of its lineup, like that of other phone makers, consists of cheaper models. Samsung remained in the lead.

With fall quickly approaching, it's that time of year again in the tech industry as well: iPhone season. There's a lot more to the leaks, so be sure to stay tuned in for more details on all 2018 iPhone models.

The new iPhone could be called the Xs and will possibly include an upgraded dual-lens camera, improved processor and a huge 512GB of storage. A new gold colour will be available alongside last year's grey and silver.

Someone at Apple is in big trouble.

A low-priced version of the iPhone X, with a 6.1-inch screen, it is expected to attract mass attention. It will also use aluminum instead of stainless steel edges, and come in several additional colors.

It's not 100% clear what Apple will announce today, but (apologies to the X-Files) the leaks are out there.

It's rumoured that Apple has ditched the home button on this tablet with this allowing the United States technology firm to push the display closer to the edge and reduce those bezels. A recent post from Chinese microblogging site Weibo, via The Inquirer, further claims this to be the case with new images surfacing around the iPhone-X-lookalike. It would be one of the largest mass-market phones on the market, measuring about an inch larger than the screen on Apple's current largest phone, the iPhone 8 Plus. Apple's offerings may also impact Huawei's P20 Pro.
