Henry Cavill Reportedly Done Playing Superman

There are no plans for a third Superman film for several years, and it is now thought that Warners are shifting their strategy and focusing on standalone movies, including an upcoming Supergirl movie, which will be an origin story featuring a teen superheroine.

THR said: "Henry Cavill, who has played Superman in three films, is parting ways with Warner Bros, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter". He returned to battle Ben Affleck's Dark Knight in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Neither representatives for Cavill nor Warner Bros. immediately responded to Fox News' request for comment. Kal-El would be an infant at the time. The studio and actor have not confirmed, but the report says the separation came after talks over a Shazam! cameo ran into scheduling conflicts (possibly from his Witcher casting) that couldn't be sorted, and that has lead to future contract discussions basically shutting down because the window for him to play Supes is closing. Even with Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Flash movies on the way, what does it mean for the roadmap if there's no Superman flying around in this world, waiting for the next Justice League?

It's easy to see why Superman fans might be shellshocked, as Cavill was the man that helped kick off DC's cinematic universe back in 2013. A source said: "Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors".

It's quite possible, then, that Warner Bros. will have both a new Superman and a new Batman, following persistent, almost two-year rumors that Ben Affleck is finished playing the Dark Knight.

The source added: "There's a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn't work". WB is reportedly hitting reset and seeking a different path for their Marvel competitor.
