Henry Cavill now stars in the critical and box office hit Mission Impossible - Fallout, which has earned over $649 million worldwide.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's The Defenders, Umbrella Academy) serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner of the series, which was announced a year ago. Variety reports that Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Henry Cavill will portray the lead role of Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming Netflix TV series The Witcher. I just replayed all the way through. Geralt of Rivia is one of many in a long line of Witchers, a group of monster hunters imbued with powers and other tools that allow them to take on creatures that others pay them to take care of.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. When destiny puts Geralt toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a valuable secret, the three have to navigate a volatile Continent together. The two met four months ago, and Hissrich said that "He IS Geralt". He IS Geralt. He always has been. Henry Cavill has now graduated to being the man of silver and steel. Geralt is the Witcher, a mutant mercenary whose one true goal in life is slaying monsters. "That's a pretty big deal", another remarked.

However, not all fans were so elated by the choice.

There's no premiere date for the Netflix series yet; as a sizeable, likely effects-heavy production, it's likely to be a ways off. "Henry Cavill could very well pull it off, he's not a bad actor at all", a fan wrote.

Time will tell if Netflix can win over the the books' diehard fandom.

Hissrich, the executive producer and showrunner for The Witcher series that's coming to Netflix, tweeted on Tuesday to welcome the DC Universe actor to the world of The Witcher.
