Henry Cavill no longer playing Superman in the DC movies

The report claims that Cavill was being approached to make a cameo in Warner Bros' upcoming DC movie Shazam! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill is set to end his run (fly?) as Superman on the big screen. In a statement issued after the THR report, it said: "We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged".

Michael B Jordan's name has been at the top of many lists, according to Deadline, who reported movie studio Warner Bros.

The studio will now shift its focus to Supergirl, Superman's cousin.

The only member of DC's holy trinity that now seems to have no plans to leave is Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, which makes sense since she received critical acclaim for her performance in Wonder Woman (which also earned DC high praise and some serious box office returns). He reprised the role alongside Ben Affleck's Batman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League".

The DCEU has struggled to find its footing compared to Marvel's MCU: to date Wonder Woman is the only universally successful film they've made, with others struggling in terms of critics, the box office, or both. This would mean that an actor of Cavill's age would no longer be required as superman would be a young adult.

Jordan doesn't need tights and a cape to prove that he's Superman because aside from his remarkable skill as an actor, he's already making changes around the world after insisting that any film he works on adopts an inclusion rider.

Warner Bros.is well aware of how many people are now displeased with the state of their DC franchise, and are apparently trying to find different angles to change that.

This unexpected (admittedly unconfirmed) news creates a tricky situation for WB and its current slate of DC movies. The latter two were panned critically, and "Justice League" was a box-office disappointment.

"Warners had been trying to enlist Cavill, who most recently co-starred in Mission: Impossible - Fallout, for a Superman cameo in Shazam!".
