Form Marcus Rashford Reminds United Fans What He Can Do

England fans have had to sit through some turgid friendlies during the past couple of decades, ruined largely by what felt like endless substitutions.

Dele Alli has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of the Three Lions' friendly against Switzerland on Tuesday after picking up a muscle strain during the 2-1 defeat to Spain.

Switzerland were the superior side before the break and Liverpool's Xherdan Shaqiri should have given them the lead early on but his effort rattled the post.

His biggest moment in an England shirt came at the World Cup in Russian Federation this summer, when he scored the second goal in the Three Lions' quarter-final win over Sweden.

Since establishing himself in Spurs' starting line-up at the start of the 2014-15 season, Kane has barely missed a game for club or country, clocking up 232 appearances for his club as well as for England's senior team and the U21s.

Southgate, the England manager, has been working with Rashford on his movement, particularly on using his prodigious pace to break into the box to meet crosses.

"We could have been two or three nil down at half-time", said England full-back Danny Rose. "Our first-half performance was embarrassing, but it's great we can all shout at each other and tell each other to improve like we did".

"His first season was last season and he had a fantastic season, he got the player of the year award and he rightly deserved that as well". "In the end, we are over the moon to keep a clean sheet and get back to winning ways". "He's had three days of little training, so half-an-hour was ideal to keep him ticking over".

Marcus Rashford is ahead of where Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane were at his age - but needs to be made to feel "important".

"He's going to be going back into matches at his club", said Southgate. Also, we wanted to finish the game strongly. "It was a tall order to ask them to go in and play against a really good side in Switzerland, who are an excellent team".

The former Manchester United and England defender believes that the forward risks mental burnout after three busy years of football, and says that those fixtures would have been the ideal time to given him some respite.
