Salah, 26, who played the best football season ever played by an Egyptian, and his teammate Sadio Mane of Senegal, are the only two African nominees on the 55-names list.

The nominations are in for the FIFPro World XI and it includes 15 players now playing their trade in the Premier League.

FIFPro and Federation Internationale de Football Association have been announcing the best players in the game now, as voted for by their fellow professionals.

Each participating footballer should select one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards, based on players' performance between July 3, 2017 and July 15, 2018.

De Gea, on a five-man shortlist that includes last year's victor Gianluigi Buffon, is joined by Manchester United teammate Pogba, who has been strongly linked with an exit from Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also nominated for firing Real Madrid to a third consecutive Champions League, prior to joining the Old Lady over the summer.

Liverpool's Van Dijk, the most expensive defender of all time at £75 million, helped the Reds to the Champions League final last season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's incredible 12 year run in the final nominations list also came to an end alongside Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and Alexis Sanchez and Gareth Bale as the most notable omissions. Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo were eventually named the attackers in last year's World XI.

Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kante and Eden Hazard are among the names included in the 15-man midfield shortlist for a spot in FIFPro's World XI.

Mohamed Salah was nominated to the final list after presenting spectacular performance on both club and worldwide level last season with Liverpool and the Egyptian national team.
