Bumblebee will be released in the USA on December 21, 2018.

Other stars involved include Rachel Crow, formerly of The X Factor USA; plus Jorge Lendebog Jr, John Ortiz and Pamela Adlon. He replaces Michael Bay, who has been directing Transformers movies since the first live-action film debuted in 2007.

The clip sees teenage mechanic Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) arrive at a junkyard and take home the vehicle that ends up transforming into the titular robot, with the two forming a bond as Charlie helps Bumblebee fight back against the film's villains. As evil forces converge on Bumblebee and Charlie, the yellow robot gets an important message from Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen): "in order to end this war, you must protect Earth and its people".

"On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town", the film's official synopsis reads. Was that Soundwave? I'm not even that big a fan of Transformers, but I can only imagine how these brief images are a form of catharsis to fans of classic Transformers who are undoubtedly exhausted of all the bits and pieces from Michael Bay's aesthetic.

We see a few Decepticons, a bit of a snarly looking John Cena, and a glimpse of Cybertron - but the film thankfully still looks like it revolves around Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld) and her unexpected friendship with Bee.

This trailer shows off more of the film, including a lot of Transformers action. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug. "I hope you all enjoy what we've made and that we honor the fans and characters of this storied franchise".
