As the committee takes up the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court on Friday, Flake is the only undecided vote.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote Friday morning on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, following a day of dramatic testimony by the appellate judge and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused him of sexual assault. Kavanaugh has denied all allegations. I wish that I could express the confidence that some of my colleagues have conveyed about what either did or did not happen in the early 1980s, but I left the hearing yesterday with as much doubt as certainty. Corker says he plans "to vote to confirm him". "The Senate must vote!" Kavanaugh angrily said he was innocent and the victim of "grotesque and obvious character assassination".

"Evaluating the credibility of these competing accounts is a question about which people of good will can and do disagree".

As part of its review of the judge's qualifications, the ABA's Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary found that Kavanaugh "enjoys an excellent reputation for integrity and is a person of outstanding character".

Attention to the hearings moved far beyond the world of Washington politics.

The Senate judiciary committee, where the initial vote on Kavanaugh will be held, is narrowly split with an 11-10 Republican majority.

If Kavanaugh's nomination is favorably advanced to the full Senate, this will be followed by an expected procedural vote on the Senate floor on Saturday. The Supreme Court will start its next session on Monday.

Signaling the continued White House support for Kavanaugh, spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders tweeted praise for Sen.

The magazine said that Kavanaugh's hearing was now more than a battle of policy issues: "The hearings and the committee's deliberations are now also a bellwether of the way the country treats women when their reports of harassment, assault and abuse threaten to derail the careers of powerful men".

At times, Kavanaugh's frustrations boiled over. Meanwhile Ford, testified that she was "100%" certain Kavanaugh attacked her. I believed he was going to rape me.

The sender of the complaint described an evening apparently involving Kavanaugh, her own daughter and several friends in 1998.

"Would you believe me that no study says that this setting in five-minute increments is the way to do that?"

After the hearing, Republicans met in private to discuss the next steps.

Bush has spoken to Republicans Jeff Flake of Arizona and Susan Collins of ME as well as Democrat Joe Manchin of West Virginia over the past several days - in an effort that the person familiar with the outreach says Bush initiated.

The four are seen as swing votes that could decide the outcome of the closely contested nomination.
