The first new item on the agenda for tonight's Apple event was the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch series 4 will start at $699 in New Zealand. They're more than 30 percent larger than previous versions, but with slimmer 40mm and 44mm profiles rather than 42mm and 46mm sizes.

The Apple Watch Series 4 will start at $599, and the 4G version will cost $749.

The speaker has been made 50 percent louder, and the microphone has been moved to the other side to reduce echo and improve call quality.

Our reviewer, David Snelling, said: "There's no question that the Apple Watch Series 3 is the best wearable the United States technology firm has ever made".

The smartwatch features the new Apple S4 SoC which contains a 64-bit dual-core processor and a new GPU, with up to two times faster performance when compared to the Series 3.

The new Apple Watch, unveiled at the company's Cupertino campus this morning and due in stores next Friday, will offer an electrocardiogram feature for the first time that can measure users' heart rhythms to detect signs of atrial fibrillation. Despite the physical overhaul, Apple still managed to wedge in a battery that will remain consistent with the Series 3's 18 hours of usage on a charge.

This includes a new digital crown, which "has been reengineered and includes haptic feedback", said Williams. If the watch senses no motion for 60 seconds after the fall, it will automatically call emergency services and notify emergency contacts with its location. Now, the watch is being listed on Apple Malaysia's website at RM 1229 and RM 1379 respectively.

A new electrical heart rate sensor also adds ECG features.

The overall functionality of the heart rate monitor, when just generally exercising, should also be improved - this is very much welcome for athletes, as the Apple Watch has never been the best at reading your pulse when being bashed about during exercise.

Apple says every aspect of the OS have been created to take advantage of the new display space. The watch face has been redesigned too, with eight customisable areas. Following lots of spiel about how Apple Watch has "redefined what a watch can do for you", Apple announced that they are taking the Apple Watch "to the next level" by unveiling Apple Watch 4. It also comes in stainless steel: polished, space black, and gold stainless. A stainless collection will also be available, alongside a gold stainless finish. Interested customers it will be able to order it starting September 14.

Apple says it will start taking pre-orders for the Global Positioning System and cellular versions on September 14, most likely around 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET. All the bands that fit earlier Watches will fit the Series 4.

Starting at $399, some £300, for the base version of the Series 4, the price hikes up to $499, around £389, for the cellular model.
