The incident occurred at the daycare center in the borough of Queens at about 3:30 a.m. EDT, a spokesman for New York City Police Department said.

A 52-year-old woman allegedly slashed herself and then turned the blade on five other people, including three infants, early Friday morning in Flushing, Queens.

Among the three children injured were two girls and one boy - all infants, authorities said.

Additionally, two adults were stabbed, neither of their injuries is said to be life-threatening. The woman was taken to a hospital and is now in police custody. One of the girls was taken to the hospital in serious condition. It's unclear whether it was a legal child care facility.

CBS New York reported that the others injured included a man, believed to be the father of one of the injured children, and a female worker.

Police arrived and discovered the woman in the basement kitchen with self-inflicted knife wounds on her arm.

A motive for the stabbings hasn't been determined.
