While optimism is growing at Anfield, the same can not be said at last season's runners-up Manchester United who kick off the new season on Friday at home to Leicester City with a squad that is under-cooked, according to manager José Mourinho.

But Emery will hope for immediate success this season having enjoyed a fine transfer window, signing goalkeeper Bernd Leno, defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis, and midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi. John Stones and Aymeric Laporte performed well against Chelsea, and given Arsenal may show a similar sense of adventure against City it would make sense if those two started yet again.

Unai Emery has told Arsenal's summer signings what he expects from them ahead of their Premier League opener this weekend. If Arsenal are going to get back into the top four this season it will be due to their attack and that will likely be determined by the performance of Aubameyang.

For now, Emery is simply looking to build an identity and improve.

"Most people recognised that our defence was poor last season", Burgess confessed.

'We need two things: quality players, which we have, and then organisation.

"He's very particular on player positioning, depending on where the ball is in certain areas of the pitch".

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is believed to be close to signing a new deal with Arsenal FC this week, following weeks of doubt about the star's future at the Emirates. A bow against the champions in front of a hopeful Emirates crowd is about as tough as it gets, but Emery repeatedly referred to the importance of a connection between players and fans, a relationship often fractured in recent years.

Meanwhile, City won the title with a record Premier League points haul of 100.

No one needs to be reminded of how Guardiola's team blew everyone out of the title race previous year, and they are huge favorites going into this match.

The Gunners have a tricky start against the defending champions as they look to try and get their season off to a positive beginning.

He also suggested that his former side, under Emery, will mount a title challenge this term.

"He's unbelievably passionate and the training sessions are extremely up tempo and full of instructions and hands on".
