Pogba leads Manchester United to winning Premier League start

Initially all looked rosy at Old Trafford, as United's encouraging start saw them go ahead through captain Pogba, but thereafter Leicester were the controlling force in the first period. United have added Brazil midfielder Fred, young full-back Diogo Dalot and back-up goalkeeper Lee Grant during the current window and have been persistently linked with reinforcements at centre-back.

Here are three winners and three losers from Friday night's Premier League opener.

There is little time for the Premier League's stars to shake off their World Cup hangover as the chase to catch champion Manchester City begins in earnest on Friday.

"I don't think I was playing as well as I could with my attacking capabilities last season, and that's what I'm known for". "I have worked really hard over the preseason and I had a lot of time to reflect, and work on what I needed to", Shaw told Sky. "We must get used to teams who have players of the same quality that we have", he said.

Mourinho also confirmed Pogba had his blessing to take the penalty after what appeared to be a disagreement with Alexis Sanchez.

The biggest news is World Cup victor Paul Pogba being named as captain; whether this is a permanent decision remains to be seen.

Likewise in his final campaign in the Spanish capital in 2012/13, Mourinho clashed with a number of senior players in a trophyless season.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said finishing second behind Manchester City last season feels like one of his "biggest achievements" as a manager in football after the criticism he has received.

While many United fans may think the possibility of that is limited to the English transfer window's deadline, they are incorrect.

"But you don't win anything with second and with Liverpool and Man City looking stronger than ever, I worry for them", he said.

Elsewhere, Everton is hopeful of tying up a deal for Barcelona center-back Yerry Mina, who scored three times for Colombia at the World Cup, and Brazilian winger Bernard.

Although he waned towards the end of the game, Pogba took his penalty very well early on to put United 1-0 up and played a number of risky passes into United's forwards as the Red Devils looked to counter-attack in the second half. "I am happy with the performance to make this game in this condition, it's encouraging for the future".
