Nobody injured in House of Parliament crash in "life-threatening condition"

The area is in lockdown after armed police swarmed the scene on Tuesday morning.

Scotland Yard said a man has been arrested after the incident shortly after 7.30am.

The driver was arrested at the scene by heavily armed police.

The Met Police confirmed a number of pedestrians have been injured, while they have installed a "terror incident cordon" in place, but are not commenting on the reasons for the collision.

"Officers remain at the scene". Eyewitnesses who took to the micro-blogging platform Twitter described seeing at least one cyclist receiving medical attention from paramedics.

Four pedestrians and a police officer were killed.

She said: "I was walking on the other side [of the road]".

Westminster Underground station, close to parliament, was closed and the building was cordoned off. I heard some noise and someone screamed.

She added that the person driving remained in the vehicle after the accident. "We will issue further info when we have it". "Basically I've seen a man driving a vehicle, and..."

The area immediately surrounding the Houses of Parliament is protected by large steel and concrete barriers and is guarded by police at all times.

Khalid Masood ploughed a 4X4 into crowds before he was shot outside Parliament, injuring 50 people and killing 5 people, including a police officer. Four people were killed in that incident when a 52-year-old British man, Khalid Masood, rammed a rental vehicle onto the sidewalk on Westminster Bridge.
