With Thibaut Courtois joining Real Madrid, Chelsea signed 23-year-old Arrizabalaga as an instant replacement for the Belgium global.

The teams didn't disclose terms of Courtois' transfer, but multiple outlets report Real Madrid will pay Chelsea £35 million (€39 million/$45 million) for his services.

The 26-year-old, named the best goalkeeper at the World Cup as Belgium finished third, has one year remaining on his contract and reportedly wishes to join Real Madrid.

Kepa Arrizabalaga's €80m (£71m) buyout clause has been met, Athletic Bilbao have announced, as the goalkeeper appears on the verge of a world record move to Chelsea. As the part of the contract, Mateo Kovacic, midfielder of the Spanish powerhouse, will join the blues on a season-long loan.

Modric - victor of the Golden Ball as he helped his national side to the World Cup final earlier this summer - had hoped to meet Real president Florentino President on Wednesday to make his intentions clear.

His future has always been speculated amid Madrid's pursuit of Manchester United keeper David de Gea, however, the veteran has played a key role in the capital.

Kepa is eligible to make his debut for Chelsea in the Premier League opener against Huddersfield Town on Saturday and said: "It's a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life". He helped the Blues win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Arrizabalaga becomes the most expensive goalkeeper in soccer history, ahead of Liverpool's Alisson, who moved from AS Roma for €75 million earlier in the transfer window.
