Seiyefa, the most senior Director in the Department of State Services (DSS), will act as Director-General until further notice.

A statement by Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity said.

Mr Idris disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday after a meeting with the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, in Abuja.

Ibrahim Idris, has said that the Police were not involved in the siege on the National Assembly. "When I have a detailed picture, we'll make a release about it".

The decision to fire the top intelligence chief is believed to be connected with a Tuesday morning blockade of the country's legislature - the National Assembly, NASS.

"By this statement, Professor Osinbajo is consequently assuring Nigerians that all persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action".

It was learnt that lawmakers as well as staff of the National Assembly were initially prevented from entering the premises by operatives of the DSS.

Before his termination, Osinbajo summoned Daura to the Presidential Villa and met with him after his arrival around 1:15pm, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
