"While I am looking forward to the next chapter in my career, I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio".

Though some are more heartfelt and less robotic, thank-you letters by traded players rarely say much significantly.

Leonard singled out Spurs coach Gregg Popovich in the letter, saying "I'll always be grateful for my growth under your guidance".

He also thanked the fans (again). Leonard wrote in a letter submitted to the San Antonio Express-News.

"The best part about San Antonio, they do right by you", the Spurs forward said, according to Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant. The two sides have had tumultuous relationship in the past year, as Leonard played just nine games last season due to a quad injury.

In a trade that sent shockwaves throughout the National Basketball Association, the Raptors acquired Leonard and three-point shooter Danny Green last month, while San Antonio received all-star DeMar DeRozan, backup centre Jakob Poeltl and a protected 2019 first-round pick.

"Through ups and downs - glad there were many more ups!"

There was speculation that Leonard would not play for Toronto, as his preference was to head to Los Angeles and play for the Lakers. - I'll never forget what we shared and accomplished together.

During his six seasons in San Antonio, Leonard was a two-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to winning an NBA championship and NBA Finals MVP in 2014.

Despite his success with the franchise, Leonard requested a trade this offseason, paving the way for the Raptors to acquire him in return for DeMar DeRozan.

"It's going to be a very intriguing season, a very exciting season, and I'm just excited to be a part of the Spurs", Walker said.
