The bill establishing Obama's birthday as a state holiday unanimously passed the IL state legislature previous year, and Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the measure into law on August 6, 2017. Last year, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner signed the bill into law.

IL is marking its first Barack Obama Day.


Saturday, Obama is celebrating his 57th birthday. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009.
