It was a busy transfer deadline for Everton as they bought Yerry Mina from Barcelona for a fee of around £27 million with a buy back option inserted from the La Liga champions.

Manchester United spent the entire summer transfer window scouring for a centre-back who could not just add solidity at the back but also be a leader in defence.

Several Premier League sides including West Ham and Chelsea had been in the hunt for the Brazilian winger while AC Milan also expressed an interest.

Everton signed Yerry Mina for 30.25 million euros, André Gomes on a one-season loan deal, and Bernard on a free transfer. This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to competing here.

Mina, for whom Barca have retained a buy-back option, said the chance to play alongside Gomes and Lucas Digne - who made the same switch last week - played a part in his decision to join Marco Silva's men.

"That is why I made my choice, because of the confidence both the manager and the Club showed in me. I am also determined to do my best for Everton".

Asked specifically about his chat with Silva, he continued: 'I did not need a lot of convincing. I know about Everton's players and I look forward to being able to play with my new team.

Portugal global Gomes endured even greater struggles at LaLiga's champions and has found an escape route in the shape of a season-long loan at Goodison Park, which will cost the Toffees €2.25million.

Everton's new manager wanted two central defenders before the deadline and was hoping to get his wish with a second loan signing, that of Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.
