Courtney Smith Believes Urban Meyer Failed To Stop Her Domestic Abuse

Ohio State placed head football coach Urban Meyer on administration leave Wednesday while it investigates claims that he was aware of domestic abuse carried out by one of his assistants but didn't take action.

The issue is whether or not Meyer protected an assistant coach, Zach Smith, after domestic violence allegations were made against Smith.

But McMurphy argued that according to text messages, an interview with Courtney Smith, and pictures of the reported abuse, Meyer knew about the alleged 2015 domestic violence incidents.

Meyer, one of the greatest college coaches of all-time, was put on paid administrative leave by the Buckeyes Wednesday in the wake of college football reporter Brett McMurphy's volatile interview with Zach Smith's ex-wife Courtney Smith. Courtney Smith told McMurphy this week that she believes Urban Meyer knew about the 2015 abuse, although she never received direct confirmation that he did.

Zach Smith was sacked on July 23 after he was served a civil protection order on behalf of Courtney Smith. Nicol was the football secretary at Florida under Meyer and now serves as director of internal operations at Ohio State.

Urban Meyer's coaching future is in limbo.

"I can't say it didn't happen because I wasn't there", Meyer claimed at Big Ten Media Days last week.

Zach Smith was accused of aggravated battery on his then-pregnant wife in 2009 while he was a graduate assistant on Meyer's staff at Florida. The university announced Wednesday that Meyer has been placed in administrative leave with pay while the investigation proceeds. "We are suspending the current partnership with Urban Meyer and removing all related content pending the results of the official Ohio State University investigation". Meyer said he and his wife, Shelley Meyer, "actually both got involved because of our relationship with that family and advised counseling and wanted to help as we moved forward". Zach Smith was the team's wide receivers' coach. "I was never told about anything ... never had a conversation about it, so I know nothing about that". Smith played for Meyer at Bowling Green and began his coaching career under Meyer in Florida. In 2009, Smith was arrested on a charge that Courtney Smith later dropped.
