The department of Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living said the case was found in a child under 10 in the Southern Health region in the province.

There are no confirmed human cases of the virus in the region so far this year.

Mosquitoes with West Nile virus have been found in Louisville.

"These traps are tested weekly from June to September, and with this recent confirmation of West Nile virus activity, we are increasing our efforts in the area surrounding the positive traps by looking for breeding sites and re-treating catch basins with larvicide".

The person, who was hospitalized and is now recovering, is an adult resident of the northeastern part of the county, the county health department said in a news release.

In Fairfax County, you can request the health department conduct a mosquito inspection of your yard by calling (703) 246-8931.

Fairfax County health officials said they had five reports of people contracting West Nile virus previous year but none in 2016. In Virginia, there were 13, and in the District, there were four.

Most people make a full recovery over weeks or months, officials said, but severe cases can lead to meningitis, paralysis and even death, according to experts. Most people infected show no symptoms, but approximately one in five will develop a fever along with other symptoms. Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on infected birds.

Symptoms include fever, headache and body aches. The most vulnerable people are those who are at least 50 or have weakened immune systems.

As always, eliminate standing water on your property to prevent the development of Culex tarsalis mosquito populations.
