Dennis Shields, the on-again, off-again boyfriend of "Real Housewives of New York" star Bethenny Frankel, was found dead in his Trump Tower home Friday, the New York City Police Department confirmed to CBS News.

Frankel and Shields' relationship marked "The Real Housewives of New York City" star's first since her contentious divorce from Jason Hoppy, which was finalized in 2016.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Shields' assistant had tried to give him Narcan to revive him but the effort was unsuccessful.

TMZ's sources say Shields overdosed on the painkiller oxycodone.

She spoke about her relationship with Shields, who she met 30 years ago, to People magazine in May.

Bethenny Frankel has not made a public statement regarding Dennis Shields. Cause of death is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.

Our thoughts are with Dennis' loved ones at this time. "We ask that the media respect our privacy during this time of loss".

The two had been dating for 2 years but had known each other for almost 30 and reportedly remained close. They said they found the 51-year-old unconscious and unresponsive, and that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Representatives for Frankel did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.

She continued, "I have worked with wonderful producers, made great friends, and I'm thrilled to leave frenemies behind".

On May 9, Bethenny detailed her relationship with Dennis, whom she's known for nearly 30 years, to talk show host Steve Harvey, 61. "It's like a partnership where if we're not being teammates and it's not working and one man is down, then the other man is down", Bethenny shared, keeping Dennis anonymous.
