Deputies in North Carolina say they're seeking a teenager who robbed a 9-year-old's lemonade stand at gunpoint.

Union County police spokesman Tony Underwood told reporters the thief stole the boy's metal money tin with less than $20 in it.

Deputies said the boy described the suspect, who is still at large, as a male teen wearing a camouflage hat and a black shirt.

Officials said they believe the suspect left a bicycle and walked from there to the lemonade stand before the robbery took place.

"Never had an incident like this, never thought this would happen", said the boys father, Philip Smith.

It's reported he got away with the child's earnings of $17. Authorities found a black BB handgun and a black camouflage hat near the scene.

Almost every weekend the boy has been setting up his lemonade stand along a round-a-bout in the neighborhood so he could buy a new lawnmower for his other weekend business.

The child and his stand are a fixture in the neighborhood.

The young boy was back selling lemonade Sunday.

"In today's world, people are very bold", Underwood said.

The police have been unable to locate the suspect so far.

Citizens with information concerning the criminal activity are encouraged to call Union County Sheriff's Office at 704-283-3789 or Union County Crimestoppers at 704-283-5600.
