James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said she's open to diversifying the role. And now, even though Daniel Craig is back for likely one final round in Danny Boyle's Bond 25, it appears Elba is still a focal point of the "next Bond' conversation - whether he's interested in the role or not".

Hollywood director and producer Antoine Fuqua, the man behind Training Day, The Magnificent Seven remake and Olympus Has Fallen, revealed details of a conversation with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli.

Upon hearing that Elba is in the frontrunning to play Bond next, the internet shared their opinions. She is also reported to have said that the casting of a minority as 007 "will happen eventually".

"Idris could do it if he was in shape", Fuqua told the Daily Star.

Bond 26, which could potentially be the one to feature Elba, is expected to be released around 2022 or 2023, at which point he'd be almost 50. You need a guy with a physically strong presence.

In response, the 45-year-old actor made light of the rumours with a lighthearted tweet.

As for Elba's own ideas about who could be the next Bond, earlier this year he discussed the idea of a woman taking on the role with Variety.

Other Black British actors who have been linked with the part include John Boyega, and David Oyelowo (who has actually voiced the character in audiobook form). "Could be a woman, could be a black woman, could be a white woman, but I think, that character, everybody would like to see it have - do something different with it, why not?"

The Superman actor said he'd "love to do it". I think now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well.
