Avenatti alleged that her arrest was "a politically motivated set up".

An Ohio strip club law prohibits clients from touching a nude or semi-nude dancer, unless the patron is a member of the dancer's immediate family. In addition to restricting the hours in which such businesses can operate - nude dancing is prohibited after midnight, for instance - the law banned touching between patrons and dancers, whether they be nude or seminude.

In April, Daniels filed suit in federal court in NY charging that Trump had defamed her.

Stormy Daniels, the woman who says she had an affair with US President Donald Trump, has been arrested at an OH strip club for letting patrons touch her in violation of state law.

The porn star's lawyer said the arrest "reeks of desperation", and said Daniels was performing the same routine she had done "at almost a hundred strip clubs" throughout the country.

Stormy Daniels' lawyer says the porn actress has been arrested at an OH strip club and is accused of letting patrons touch her, which is a violation of a state law. "We will fight all bogus charges", Avenatti wrote. In May, Trump said Daniels was paid to stop "false and extortionist accusations" she made about a sexual encounter with him.

A spokesperson for the Franklin County Sheriff's Department told CBS as of early Thursday morning, Daniels was not being held there. A person who answered the phone at the club declined to comment. Avenatti said in another tweet, appearing to suggest a set-up. "We also expect that she will be charged with a misdemeanor for allowing "touching". Trump has said he personally reimbursed Cohen for that payment.
