Executive producer and series co-creator Alex Kurtzman revealed the first look trailer at "Star Trek: Discovery" Season 2 at San Diego Comic-Con.

Star Trek: Discovery hopes to get a little classic Trek love with the introduction of the original USS Enterprise. The second season is slated to return to CBS All Access in early 2019. Additional episodes include a deep dive into Saru's (Doug Jones) backstory as the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, and Tilly's (Mary Wiseman) journey aboard the U.S.S. Discovery. It was created by the late Gene Roddenberry and featured characters including Captain James T. Kirk, played by William Shatner, and Vulcan officer Mr. Spock, played by the late Leonard Nimoy. Spock casting news should be made available soon. These mini-episodes, which arrive in monthly installments this fall, will explore the backstories of side characters like the infamous smuggler Harry Mudd (Rainn Wilson), who double-crossed Lorca (Jason Isaacs) and Tyler (Shazad Latif) back in Season 1. In a recent interview, Mount talked about how cool it is to be a part of a Star Trek project, noting that it's been "crazy". It's a role that not many have gotten to play. According to Mount, fans will get to meet "the original Number One", first portrayed by Majel Barrett on the unaired pilot episode of NBC's Star Trek show. They may even have to make choices between their real families and their Star Trek families. But based on the new trailer, it turns out I was not far off the mark!

The spin-off will consist of four episodes of 10-15 minutes. The change could be partly due to a behind-the-scene shakeup on show, since Alex Kurtzman has taken over as showrunner from Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg on the new season.
