While there are restricted free agents still available, the biggest names in free agency have found homes. Leonard has made it known that he is hellbent on signing in Los Angeles next season, but Paul George said that last summer before he was traded to the Thunder, too.

But the biggest trade piece in the National Basketball Association remains on the market.

San Antonio might favor such a deal because it allow them to send Leonard out of the Western Conference and prevent the forward from creating a potential super-team with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Spurs reportedly asked them for three future first-round draft picks and two current players, but if one of those players do not include one of either Markelle Futlz, Ben Simmons or Joel Embiid, it will likely be rejected. Meanwhile, other teams who can put together a competitive trade package, like the Boston Celtics, are rumoured to be happier holding onto their assets for now. The trade talks between the Spurs and Sixers have hit a snag, however, because the Spurs reportedly "keep trying to raise the ante".

The Toronto Raptors also generated buzz as a potential destination for Leonard.

With LeBron James leaving the Eastern Conference, there is speculation that Masai Ujiri could be inclined to make a bold win-now trade of the magnitude of acquiring Leonard. He was clearly a favorite for the team and years later, he could be in the mix yet again. But according to ESPN's Chris Haynes, there is only one team in the East that Leonard would interested in playing for: the Philadelphia 76ers.

Could Kawhi Leonard become a part of "the process?"

It opens up a completely different avenue for San Antonio and their situation with Leonard as they could potentially be getting a ready-made All-Star in Butler to build their team around.
