President Donald Trump and his U.S. delegation intend to raise the issues of arms control, Ukraine, Syria and election meddling during their meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a senior administration told reporters Thursday.

"The president will continue to hold Russian Federation accountable for its malign activities", he said, describing the meeting as the first opportunity for an extended conversation about the topic, despite the fact that the two men have met multiple times and spoken at length on the sidelines of various summits, including a meeting that lasted more than two hours in Hamburg, Germany.

Earlier in the day, US Envoy to Russia Jon Huntsman told reporters that Donald Trump believes that the upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin will help decrease tensions between the twonations. "I wouldn't underplay at all the importance of actually sitting down for the first time in a meeting, summit environment". But it will also take place under the cloud of special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing probe into potential links between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin during the 2016 vote. Trump also rejected the joint communique signed by leaders at the conclusion of the meeting, launching personal attacks against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the process.

Trump has expressed scorn for the alliance and is expected to upbraid European NATO members for not spending enough on their own defense.

"We're entering [the talks with Russia] with our eyes wide open, but peace is always worth the effort", he added.

As the upcoming Donald Trump-Vladimir Putin summit draws near, Fox News host Melissa Francis is reminding people it's essential for the president to challenge Russian Federation for their interference in American politics.

"The President has determined that now is the time for direct communication between himself and President Putin and that it is in the interest of the United States. and that's the way he's proceeding", the official said.
