Overwatch’s 28th hero is Hammond the hamster

Adding new content, especially heroes, keeps those players engaged. If Blizzard keeps this ability available during gameplay, it could give the little hamster a lot of valuable skills.

This will be the game's 28th hero, and the seventh new addition since the original launch in May 2016.

Tapping crouch in midair will send Wrecking Ball crashing to the ground for a high-impact smash with the Piledriver ability.

It looks as though Overwatch's newest hero might be who - but not what - we thought. Unlike Winston, our hamster pilot isn't great at communication and speaks through the minor AI of his mech. However, Blizzard later revealed the hero was a cute hamster fighting in a robotic spider-like armor. Horizon specialized in experiments with enhancing animal intelligence, and though many of its subjects were gorillas like Winston, the staff emails also teased "smaller subjects" who were particularly hard to keep track of. Hammond, on the other hand, was the only genetically enhanced hamster on board. Horizon Lunar Colony was a scientific experiment, which helped uplift certain specimens (mainly gorillas) into intellectuals and sometimes even scientists like Winston. Wrecking Ball is live now on the Overwatch PTR and will be coming soon to the main game's roster. During the animal uprising, which took place on the moon, mind you, the subjects sent the scientists into space, and both Winston and Hammond were later classified as "missing", although that clearly isn't the case.

The Overwatch team hasn't given us any official details yet, but they're probably trying to escape the rolling ball of death they've created before they have time to sit down and put it all together. Hammond's mech can also shift into what Overwatch game director, Jeff Kaplan, describes as "Ball Mode", allowing him to roll around the battlefield quickly.
