"Cheryl and I are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways", he wrote.

The couple, who share one-year-old Bear together, announced that their relationship was over late on Sunday evening, sharing nearly identical statements on their official Twitter accounts.

Cheryl took to Twitter on Monday, where she spoke out against "nasty, false articles" concerning her mother, Joan Callaghan, and the singer's previously-announced split from Liam Payne. This was a hard decision for us.

"The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward", they said in a joint statement.

The tweet was posted to both Payne and Versini's Twitter accounts just a few hours ago. Liam Payne has yet to make a statement.

Later in March, Cheryl responded to images of her partner and another woman, saying she was an "innocent dancer colleague of Liam's who has a fiance". "I can assure you she has absolutely nothing to do with any of it". The Englander got his first taste of fame at just 14-years-old when he auditioned on the reality competition show The X Factor in 2008.

The couple never married, but welcomed a son named Bear in March 2017. "She's been my dream girl since I was younger. A day that now has a different meaning to me forever".

The pair attend the Brit Awards together and put on a very public display of affection in response to reports that they are going through problems.

He added: "Well their relationship lasted more than two years, as if somehow in showbiz circles that's bordering on miraculous".

Piers then said: "It's always weird when people say they have so much love and respect for each other".
