The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been announced.

Whitehead also saw little action throughout the 2017-18 season as he only played 11.3 minutes per game in 16 outings with the Nets.

Lin spent two seasons in Brooklyn, though, he was only able to suit up for the Nets for a total of 37 games due to injuries. According to Wojnarowski, the team also worked a deal with the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night, receiving forwards Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur, a 2019 protected first-round pick and a 2020 second-round pick in exchange for guard Isaiah Whitehead.

As first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets have agreed to send point guard Jeremy Lin to Atlanta as the precursor to another trade with the Denver Nuggets.

Lin will be entering his ninth season in the National Basketball Association next fall, and the Hawks mark the 6-foot-3 point guard's sixth team.

As for the Nets, the Nets backcourt will now be mostly handled by Spencer Dinwiddie, D'Angelo Russell, and Caris LeVert.

A Newark native, Faried, 28, averaged 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 32 games last season.

The trade with the Nuggets was a salary dump for Denver.
