The deal will mean that Blind will become the most expensive player in Ajax's history.

Manchester United have agreed terms with Ajax Amsterdam for Netherlands worldwide Daley Blind to return to the Dutch club, the Premier League team announced on Monday.

Sources have told ESPN FC the deal will be worth £14.1 million, which could rise to £18.5m with add-ons.

Able to play in defence or midfield, Blind was a regular under Van Gaal - but his appearances have reduced since Jose Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford.

Blind was signed by Louis van Gaal from Ajax for £13.8 million in the summer of 2014.

Do you think United made the right decision to get rid of Blind?

But, since Mourinho's arrival, Blind has seen his playing time substantially decrease with the Portuguese coach seeming unsure as to his best position. Last season, however, Blind appeared in only 7 Premier League games, while starting just four of those.

While Blind's time at Old Trafford did not see any league titles, he was part of sides that won the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup.

United's World Cup stars are now on holiday so the majority of the pre-season squad were youngsters meaning there's no real other reason for Blind to miss out. "He's multi-functional, can be a left-back, centre-half and a defensive midfielder".
